CONOVER, N.C. -- Officials say a substance abuse counselor in Catawba County was arrested on Monday after a marijuana growing operation was found in his home.

Catawba County Sheriff's Office Narcotics Investigators and the Newton Police Department conducted a search warrant at a residence in the 5200 block of Swinging Bridge Road in Conover on Monday.

Sidney Miller DeRamus is charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver schedule VI, maintaining a dwelling for a controlled substance, manufacturing marijuana and two counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Authorities say DeRamus, who is currently employed as a substance abuse counselor, was in possession of approximately $16,800 worth of marijuana.

His bond is set at $12,000.
