YORK COUNTY, S.C. -- The York County Sheriff's Office say they've apprehended the man they believe is responsible for several indecent exposures in the York County-area.
Through the course of their investigation, authorities identified Winston Tyrone Burton, 52, of York, as the suspect who exposed himself to a woman at the Lake Wylie WalMart.
Burton was arrested and charged with one count of indecent exposure in connection with that case, which occurred in mid-June.
Several other law enforcement agencies are also investigating similar indecent exposures within their jurisdictions in which the suspect's description matches that of the Lake Wylie WalMart case.
The victim in this case told officials that a black male approached her and informed her that something may be leaking from her car and offered to help. He asked that she move her car to a different location in the parking lot, the victim reported.
After moving her vehicle, the victim reports looking back and to find the suspect exposing himself.
On Wednesday, the York County Sheriff's Office warned that the suspect in the area flashings may be posing as a Good Samaritan.
The most recent incident occurred in the parking lot of the Goodwill Store on Mt. Gallant Road in Rock Hill on Sunday. The circumstances around that case are very similar to this case, authorities say. Rock Hill Police are heading-up that investigation.
Additionally, CMPD is investigating an incident in the Steele Creek area of south Charlotte.
Jim Grisser is the neighbor who lives across the street from Burton and said, “People move into areas that they know. People don’t suspect them of doing something wrong.”
Shoppers in Lake Wylie were relieved an arrest had been made.
“Well obviously it makes me feel better. I’ve got a teenage daughter that drives around here,” said Michele Welch as she loaded groceries into her car.
Benton was booked in to the York County Detention Center under a $2000 bond.
Officials ask any citizens who may have had a similar experience to come forward.
