YORK COUNTY, S.C -– The York County Sheriff’s Office held a shooting demonstration Tuesday night at the Moss Justice Center and it’s safe to say these marksmen have a pretty good shot.
Sergeants Heath Clevenger and Buddy Brown were on hand to showcase their award winning skills. That accuracy behind the trigger won them several accolades at the NRA National Police Tactical Shooting Competition last month in New Mexico.
“It’s a good opportunity to get some training and test yourself to see if the training that you take part in holds up as you compare yourself to other law enforcement officers across the nation,” Sergeant Clevenger said.
Clevenger won first place in the county division. He placed 8th overall individually out of 68 teams.
His teammate, Sergeant Brown, finished 14th overall. Both placed 4th in the team competition.
“It was very competitive,” Brown said. “We were competing against other officers from all over the nation. There were some really high quality teams out there. There was a little bit of nervousness but we do a lot of this, so once those first shots went down range we just kind of fell into what we do, and we did pretty well.”
