LOS ANGELES (AP) — "American Idol" judge Kara DioGuardi (dee-oh-GWAHR'-dee) may still be drying her tears after a moving performance by contestant Michael "Big Mike" Lynche.

The 26-year-old Lynche of Astoria, N.Y., performed last among the eight male semifinalists Wednesday and emerged as the star of the show.

DioGuardi tearfully called Lynche "amazing," and fellow judge Simon Cowell said it was the best performance of the night and of the live shows so far this season on the Fox singing competition.

The eight female semifinalists performed Tuesday. The top six vote-getters from the men's and women's groups will be announced Thursday.
