What Can You Do Right Now?

Set sprinklers to water the lawn or garden only - not the street or sidewalk.

Use the microwave to cook small meals. (It uses less power than an oven.)

Purchase "Green Power" for your home's electricity. (Contact your power supplier to see where and if it is available.)

Scrape, rather than rinse, dishes before loading into the dishwasher; wash only full loads.

Cut back on air conditioning and heating use if you can.

Turn off appliances and lights when you leave the room.

Greensboro relaxes water restrictions

03:06 PM EDT on Tuesday, March 11, 2008

Associated Press

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Officials in Greensboro are relaxing some restrictions on water use due to improving supply conditions.

The News & Record of Greensboro reported that water restrictions will go from Mandatory Stage IIB to Mandatory Stage IIA effective Tuesday.

The difference is that sprinkler systems and hose-end sprinklers will be permitted on the same day as garbage collection, and home car washing is allowed. Commercial and customers outside the city may use sprinklers on Wednesday.

A statement from the city said recent rains, reduced consumption, purchased water from other cities and the ability to augment the city's supply with transfer from the Haw River have lifted lake volumes to over 90 percent full. The city also said streamflow is continuing to raise lake levels.
