What Can You Do Right Now?

Set sprinklers to water the lawn or garden only - not the street or sidewalk.

Use the microwave to cook small meals. (It uses less power than an oven.)

Purchase "Green Power" for your home's electricity. (Contact your power supplier to see where and if it is available.)

Scrape, rather than rinse, dishes before loading into the dishwasher; wash only full loads.

Cut back on air conditioning and heating use if you can.

Turn off appliances and lights when you leave the room.

Water restrictions eased

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – It has rained enough, and people have conserved enough, that utilities officials are easing water restrictions by allowing residents to water their lawns once a week.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Utilities announced Wednesday that changes to water use restrictions will take effect Saturday.

Customers with odd-numbered addresses may water their lawns on Saturdays, and those with even-numbered addresses may water on Sundays.

All other restrictions remain in effect – residential car-washing, refilling of empty swimming pools and operating ornamental fountains are still prohibited.

“Conservation is still critical but things are looking up,” said Maeneen Klein, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Utilities water conservation manager. “Another shift in the weather may require us to tighten the rules again later, but for now allowing limited lawn watering is a reasonable step that balances environmental and water supply needs with business and economic needs.”
