Set sprinklers to water the lawn or garden only - not the street or sidewalk.
Use the microwave to cook small meals. (It uses less power than an oven.)
Purchase "Green Power" for your home's electricity. (Contact your power supplier to see where and if it is available.)
Scrape, rather than rinse, dishes before loading into the dishwasher; wash only full loads.
Cut back on air conditioning and heating use if you can.
Turn off appliances and lights when you leave the room.
CHARLESTON, S.C. -- A company that stores radioactive nuclear waste wants to ship 20,000 tons of the dangerous material from overseas through ports in Charleston and New Orleans.
EnergySolutions would begin shipping the material into the United States next spring for eventual burial at a Utah site, if federal regulators approve.
EnergySolutions says licenses have been granted to companies that import radioactive items from overseas.
The company has operated a processing site in Barnwell County for more than 30 years. That landfill will close next year to all but three states.
It's unclear where the materials would be unloaded in Charleston. The State Ports Authority says it doesn't handle radioactive materials.
