SECURITY INCREASED AT SOUTHPARK MALL

If you shop at SouthPark Mall, expect to see an increase in the number of CMPD officers and security guards. 

Mall officials are increasing security after two violent encounters happened in broad daylight, including a robbery on Wednesday. A woman was robbed of nearly $27,000 in personal belongings when she was walking back to her car in the Nordstrom parking lot.

PANTHERS SCHEDULE RELEASED

The NFL released its 2017 schedule Thursday and the Panthers will be featured twice in primetime. After opening the season in San Francisco, Cam Newton and company will make their 2017 home debut against the Buffalo Bills and former defensive coordinator Sean McDermott on September 17. 

The Panthers are opening the regular season away from home for the sixth time in seven seasons under head coach Ron Rivera, and five of their first eight games will be played on the road. The month of December will prove crucial for Carolina, as they play three home games, including visits from Green Bay and division rival Tampa Bay.

COMMUNITY STEPS UP AFTER FAMILY LOSES HOME TO FIRE

A southwest Charlotte community is rallying together after a family lost their home and six pets during a devastating house fire Thursday. 

The fire started during a birthday celebration with friends, according to the homeowner. Neighbors, friends and even complete strangers have come together to raise over $7,500 for the family.

VERIFY: WILL AT&T DOOR-TO-DOOR REPS ASK FOR YOUR SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER?

We've received numerous questions from concerned residents that door-to-door salespeople have asked for their social security number. But will they really do that? 

According to AT&T spokesperson Natalie Turner, yes, if a customer signs up for new service. Officials with the Better Business Bureau and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police say if you're unsure what to do, to contact the company directly and verify that the person you spoke with is a legitimate salesperson.
