First-grader wants to feed homeless for his birthday

First-grader Malcolm Robinson wanted to donate 200 cans of food to the Rowan County Helping Ministries.

ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. -- First-grader Malcolm Robinson wanted to donate 200 cans of food to the Rowan County Helping Ministries-- he now has over 400 cans to give, all thanks to his generous neighbors and his determination to help kids who don't have enough to eat.

"We're very proud of him. He came up with this on his own," said Nichole Robinson, Malcolm's mom. "We're really thankful that the community is supporting this."

"It's good to help people," said Malcolm.

His plan was simple: place the request on a bag, then leave the bag on a porch. Next, pick up the bags of food at a later time.

When asked if he thought he would collect so much, Malcolm shook his head and said, "No!"

For his birthday this weekend, he's asked friends and family to bring food for others.
