Hidden Valley students receive supplies

Sometimes having a backpack full of supplies can really make the difference for a child.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Classroom Central and Ally Financial provided roughly 1,000 backpacks stuffed with school supplies to every student at Hidden Valley Elementary Wednesday. The supplies included pencils, chalk, scissors, and paper.

"This is an awesome day," said Lauren Johnson with Classroom Central. "We assure them that thanks to the community-- yes, that's yours. Your only job is to do well at school this year."

The backpacks did not disappoint with children squealing with delight. First-year teacher Angela Gist believes the supplies will go a long way to help students achieve their best.

"It will make a huge difference in these kids’ lives. Having them prepared with the materials that they have-- [it] makes it so much easier. It's an uneasy feeling not to have a lot of the things you need. Now they know they have it, they're not going to run out and they're just so joyful about it."

Along with the backpacks, Ally Financial also donated 50 books to the school’s library.
