CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- It is a holiday favorite – the nutcracker ballet – and Charlotte is getting ready to debut a brand new show thanks to a one million dollar donation. We got an exclusive look behind the scenes.
With just days to go before the curtain goes up, rehearsals are well under way.
“It’s just wonderful festivities, we celebrate the holidays in grand fashion,” says Jean-Pierre Bonnefoux, the play's president and artistic director.
Charlotte ballet is getting ready to debut the iconic show the nutcracker in a way the Queen City has never seen before.
The McColl family donated $1 million to help create all new sets and costumes.
So the costume shop is buzzing. With more than 200 dancers, there is a lot of sewing. Among the dancers, more than 150 local kids who will dance alongside the professionals brining a special touch.
It is after all, the Nutcracker, a form of childhood fantasy coming to life through ballet.
