6000 gallons of wastewater spill into Lake Norman

MOORESVILLE, N.C. -- A broken force main led to thousands of gallons of untreated wastewater to make its way into Lake Norman over the weekend.

Around 2:45 Sunday afternoon, Aqua North Carolina says a four-inch force main broke, discharging about 7000 gallons of untreated wastewater near the Pier 33 Condominiums in Mooresville.

Aqua says they believe about 6000 gallons of the discharged untreated wastewater made its way into Lake Norman.

The main was repaired by Sunday evening, and Aqua has collected samples in the cove to assess any environmental impact.
