GASTONIA, N.C. -- Kid visitors under the age of 13 are currently not allowed inside Gastonia's CaroMont Regional Medical Center.

In an effort to prevent the spread of the flu, visitors to CaroMont Regional Medical Center under the age of 13 are restricted from visiting the hospital. Additionally, the hospital says guests who have compromised immune systems or are experiencing flu-like symptoms should not visit patients in the hospital.

CaroMont said in a release, citing the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, that flu activity is increasing on a national level. Flu cases reported in North Carolina are on the rise.

CaroMont urges those who have not gotten a flu shot to do so.
