ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. -- A Rowan County school is taking precautions after a student was diagnosed with bacterial meningitis.
That student is a senior at Carson High School and is currently in a hospital in Winston-Salem.
Parents have gotten a message from the school, listing the symptoms to watch out for, like high fever, headache or stiff neck.
School officials say the infected student's friends are taking antibiotics as a precaution.
School is out for the rest of the week for the Thanksgiving holiday.
Bacterial meningitis is very contagious. It can be very severe and can lead to brain damage, hearing loss or learning disabilities.
