CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Every needle represents hope.
Hope that Amy Clinton will get pregnant.
“Everybody always says just relax don't think about it and that is almost impossible,” said Clinton.
This is not her first experience with acupuncture. Amy and her husband tried to conceive for years but nothing happened.
“I guess I assumed that I wasn't going to be able to have kids because at that point I was already 40.”
Acupuncture is one of the world oldest healing practices, and it's used to treat everything from chronic pain to allergies.
It’s also being used as an alternative for fertility treatments.
After no luck working with fertility treatments, Clinton added acupuncture into the mix.
“It worked," she said. "And actually we had been doing fertility things medication and shots and things along with the acupuncture. The month that I got pregnant we had actually decided to take off from all fertility stuff and we went on vacation for a month and I came back pregnant.”
She's now a mom to a beautiful little boy named Gabriel.
“The joy he brings me, it's wonderful," she said.
So she decided it’s time to try for baby number two.
“Now that I know my body can have a child and I can get pregnant, I'm hoping that just with the acupuncture that it works out,” said Clinton.
So she went back to Board Certified Acupuncturist Abe Rummage.
"You know I'm always surprised at sometimes how quickly things work," said Rummage.
First he does a full health history before he starts acupuncture.
Then he uses points on the body to create a fertile environment.
“The idea is that you have a template within your body that is perfect health and it's living in the world; stress, environment, and everything that happens to us to get us away from that template. So, with these points and these channels it can help guide you back to that template,” explained Rummage.
So what about those needles?
“By the time all the needles are in and I leave the room, most people are half way on their way to a nap," Rummage said.
Whether you want to try acupuncture, fertility treatments, or both, you have options.
Clinton says her best advice to women is to relax.
“If you're stressed out and not enjoying life, it's not gonna happen either I don't think.”
