CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Quick, easy, inexpensive -- an anti-aging product available over-the-counter may be too good to be true.

It's called Pro X and it's made by Oil of Olay.

"This particular over-the-counter product is a sunscreen and a wrinkle cream that contains Retinol," said Dr. Elizabeth Rostan of the Dermatology and Cosmetic Surgery Center of Charlotte.

With so many products available, Rostan admits it's hard for consumers to know what to do for their skin and what to buy at the drugstore.

"Retinol is a proven over-the-counter ingredient that can increase skin correction and increase cell turnover," Rostan said.

Doctors who recommend Pro X say there's science behind it -- proof it can actually work as well as some of the proven anti-aging prescriptions like Renova and Retin-A.

"This particular system was actually tested against Renova .02%, and in an eight-week study and a 24-week study they actually demonstrated equal efficacy to Renova," said Dr. Patricial Farris with the American Society for Dermatologic Study.

Ashley Nelson says she is proof that it works. As a young girl, Nelson says she spent too much time in the sun getting burned to a crisp. Now, she is using Pro X and says she is seeing results.

"I don't have any redness anywhere, and it just really shielded me from the sun," she said.

You can get Pro X at the drugstore. Each of the six products costs about $40, totaling about $240 for the complete line.

But doctors say you don't need to buy them all. Each product does something different. If you're looking for help for your eyes, Pro X has a product. And if you're looking for moisturizer, the line has that, too.

Rostan says the best thing women can do for their skin is wear sunscreen with UVA and UVB protection. She recommends it for all women of all ages.

"Daily small exposure to the sun will break down collagen and lead to sagging skin, sun blotches and wrinkles," she said.
