CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- With childhood obesity rates off the charts and stress levels at home at an all-time high, it's even more important to keep your child's health in check these days.
Yoga is practiced worldwide to relax and balance the mind, body and soul and it's not just for adults anymore.
While it's definitely not as quiet in the kids' room, the staff at the Charlotte Family Yoga Center say the kids get the same benefits from yoga.
"It just really helps with their focus, concentration. It helps with their sports as they start getting older, their agility, just a number of things," said yoga instructor Dona Hagler.
Tanya Conklin has been taking her 3-year-old daughter Sydney to yoga since she was only 1.
"She loves yoga. She's always showing daddy her moves -- down dog, bridge tree, doggy and kiddy cat," Conklin said.
The classes are a combination of songs, dances and poses.
Hagler says there's a reason these kids are benefitting so much: "Children don't have time to be still anymore. They are rushed to get up in the morning, rushed to eat breakfast, to get to school on time, rushed to get to class. They don't have time to slow down."
Surprisingly, slowing down seems to be their favorite part.
"I like to lay down," said Isabel.
"I really like the resting time," said Maggie
Each class ends with rest time and foot rubs.
It's a trend that continues to grow and one that's keeping kids fit and helping them become better students.
