Released by the Health Department & Department of Social Services:
Local Affordable Care Act Efforts
The Health Department and Department of Social Services staff, along with a coalition of community agencies, are collaborating with a local effort to educate residents about how eligible individuals can sign up for one of the insurance options available through the marketplace of the Federal Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare.
Three agencies, C.W. Williams, Legal Services of Southern Piedmont & NC MedAssist will have people serving as federally funded Affordable Care Act Navigators stationed at each location to assist residents in signing up for coverage. These agencies also will arrange for the Navigators to be available at other locations throughout the county as needed. Additionally, residents will be able to sign up online or get information at 1-800-318-2596, or on the State’s ePASS website. Open enrollment begins October 1, 2013 and continues through March 31, 2014. Local information will be available at the MedLink of Mecklenburg website.
On Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at 11 a.m. C.W. Williams (900 East Blvd. in Charlotte) will also host an event including representatives from ActionNC and elected officials. Also on Tuesday, October 1, Madison Hardee from Legal Services of Southern Piedmont and Don Jonas from Care Ring will be guests on WFAE’s Charlotte Talks with Mike Collins to discuss what is occurring locally and how residents can access the federal marketplace.
Board members with questions should contact Assistant County Manager Michelle Lancaster at 704-336-2621 or via email.
