CHARLOTTE, N.C. -– A NewsChannel 36 I-Team investigation showcased questionable business practices at Discount Furniture on South Boulevard in Charlotte, where customers complained that the furniture they bought was not what was delivered.
Isaiah Dunifer told the I-Team, “Hopefully, I’ll get my money back.” But the reality is, he likely won’t.
As of August 6, Discount Furniture’s South Blvd. location closed up shop.
Dunifer paid $1,250 for a mattress set and sectional, but the bed arrived dirty, torn, and is flat out disgusting. Dunifer said dozens of calls to salesmen at the store went nowhere.
“He was going to talk to the manager and have him call me, but no one ever called,” said Dunifer.
Discount Furniture still has 16 outstanding complaints with the Charlotte Better Business Bureau, which is one reason why they are out of business today. The showroom is now just a room filled with trash.
The location on South isn’t the only one locked -- the store in the University City area is also now out of business and vacant.
Customers like the Dunifers fear they are stuck with dirty, torn and smelly furniture and not the brand new expensive bed set they were shown and ordered.
So, what options and recourse do other people that ordered furniture from the store have?
Tom Bartholomy, president of the Charlotte Better Business Bureau said, “If you used a credit card, you can start the refund process. We too are trying to find them. They could be selling their inventory out of the back of a truck for all we know.”
Bartholomy said it is very likely these people will open up a furniture business again, but under a different name.
If you have a complaint against Discount Furniture, put it in writing.
