CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Charlotte City Council member Warren Cooksey announced Monday that he will not run for re-election.
“It has been a privilege to serve the City of Charlotte as the Council Member for District 7 for three terms,” said Cooksey. “However, it’s time to let the voters choose someone else to have that opportunity. It’s good to have a sense of balance in life, and I need to focus on personal and professional goals for a while.”
Cooksey was firest elected in 2007 to City Council. Cooksey was part of two bipartisan coalitions that prevented a property tax increase in 2012. He also voted against accepting funding from the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act.
“I have thoroughly enjoyed advocating conservative approaches to City issues,” said Cooksey. “I hope the next Council Member from District 7 also seeks to work with other Council Members to do what is best for all of Charlotte.”
