Driver arrested for DWI after fatal crash

Police are piecing together what caused a deadly crash at Freedom Drive and Thriftwood Drive.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Authorities say a drunk driver caused a fatal accident in northwest Charlotte Thursday afternoon.

The accident happened around 3:15 p.m. along Freedom Drive near the intersection of Thriftwood Drive.  A 2002 Nissan Sentra and a 2009 Mitsubishi Galant collided and ran off the road.

The front passenger in the Nissan Sentra was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the car, according to police.  The passenger died at the scene, according to MEDIC.

A preliminary investigation indicated the driver of the Nissan Sentra ran a stop sign and crashed into the Mitsubishi Galant, police said.

The driver of the Mitsubishi Galant suffered minor injuries.

According to police, the driver of the Nissan Sentra has been identified as Issac Vonzell Woodall.  He was arrested for DWI and felony death by motor vehicle.
