CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Charlotte-Mecklenburg police have charged a man with DWI after causing a deadly accident on Brookshire Boulevard Wednesday night.
Police said 36-year-old Steven Johnson had been drinking and was speeding on Brookshire Boulevard near I-85 when his rear-ended another car.
Both cars slid into oncoming traffic and two other cars hit them.

Lesile Dahm, 66, was killed and Johnson and another person were injured during the accident.
According to CMPD, the accident happened just after 8 p.m. at the 3600 block of Brookshire, near the I-85 ramp.
Paramedics told NBC Charlotte that Dahm died at the scene.
One person was taken to Presbyterian Hospital with potentially life threatening injuries while another person was rushed to Carolinas Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
Johnson is charged with DWI, driving while license revoked, reckless driving and involuntary manslaughter.
Brookshire Boulevard was shut down in both directions for a few hours Wednesday night while police investigated the accident.
