SALISBURY, N.C. -- One man died in a house fire Monday morning in Salisbury, fire officials say.

The fire was reported about 7:15 a.m. at a residence on Ludwick Avenue in south Salisbury, authorities say. A neighbor called 911 to report a fire nearby.

Firefighters found flames inside the house when they arrived, and they quickly put out the blaze. But they discovered the body of 53-year-old Larry Wendall Knox near the rear door, according to authorities. Nobody else was in the house, they say.

Damage was contained to the interior of the house.

"Salisbury police criminal investigations unit and fire are treating this as a suspicious fire," said the Salisbury Police Department in a statement.  "The State Bureau of Investigations Arson unit has been called in to assist with the investigation. At this time the investigation is continuing."
