Man faces DWI after car smashes into South Blvd. power pole

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Police have arrested a Florida man for drunk driving after smashing his car into a power pole early Friday morning.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police say 46-year-old Richard Wesson slammed his car into a power pole on South Boulevard at Hebron Street around 2:30 a.m.

Outbound lanes of South Boulevard were closed just before 6 a.m. as crews worked to clear downed power lines at the wreck site.

One person was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Wesson is charged with driving while impaired and reckless driving to endanger. He was booked in to the Mecklenburg County Jail under bonds totaling $1500.

Crews worked for hours to fix the power pole and restore power to the area.
