Red Lobster employee shot during robbery in Matthews

MATTHEWS, N.C. -- An employee at the Red Lobster in Matthews was shot Saturday morning.

Matthews police said employees were opening the restaurant when they were approached by two men at the back of the restaurant who attempted to rob them.

One of the employees was shot during the incident.

The victim was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to Medic.

Police are looking for two black men who were wearing black pants and shirts. Police did not say if the suspects got away on foot or in a vehicle.

In a statement sent to NBC Charlotte a spokeswoman for Red Lobster said:

"First and foremost, our immediate concern is for our manager who was hurt. We're extremely thankful that he's going to be OK and that no one else was seriously injured. We are of course fully cooperating with the local authorities as they investigate this incident. Since this is an ongoing investigation, we can't discuss any other details at this time; we're sure the Matthews Police Department will be able to provide updates as the investigation progresses."
