17-year-old from Chester killed after car overturned and hit tree

YORK COUNTY, S.C. -- A 17-year-old was killed Tuesday after his car veered off the road and hit a tree.

The accident happened around 4:25 p.m. Tuesday on Mobley Store Road. 

Police Eron Johnson was in the right lane when he veered off the road and struck a ditch causing his car to overturn and hit a tree.

Although Johnson was wearing a seatbelt, he was pronounced dead at the scene, according to South Carolina Highway Patrol.

There were no other vehicles on the road during the time of the incident. 

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. A toxicology test is pending.
