CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Animal Care and Control are searching for two black bears in a north Charlotte neighborhood.

Animal Control says the bears were spotted on Forest Cross near Beatties Ford Road.

The parents of a 16-year-old girl called police after she ran back home telling them of the wild animals she spotted.

"When she told me what happens at first I didn't know what to think," said Jeffrey Muhammad, as he returned home after driving his daughter to school, "Yeah I drove her; she missed that bus." He said smiling.

CMPD says that the bears range in age from about 1 to 2-years-old. They are not cubs with their mother.

Forest Cross Drive has a few dozen homes and is surrounded by a large wooded area.

Police tell NBC Charlotte that the bears seem to have left the area and the public should remember to not leave any food out nor put the garbage out until trash day arrives.
