CATAWBA COUNTY, N.C. -- Two people died in a pair of early Friday morning wrecks in Catawba and Union counties.
The North Carolina Highway Patrol confirmed one person was killed during a crash on Herter Road near Blackburn Ridge Road west of Highway 321 in Catawba County. The incident occurred around 2:45 a.m., and it's unclear what caused the crash.
The name of the victim has not been released.
In Rowan County, meanwhile, a driver ran his car off the road and hit a tree around 12:50 a.m., officials said.
Jeffery Swicegood, 33, was killed in the wreck on Union Church Road and Stokes Ferry Road.
Officials said Swicegood may have fallen asleep, causing the single-car crash.
