RALEIGH, N.C. -- Flu season hasn't officially begun, but two cases of the virus have already been confirmed in North Carolina.
The state's Division of Public Health said two children in Durham County have been diagnosed with seasonal flu.
"These results remind us that influenza is a year-round problem," State Public Health Director Jeff Engel said in a news release. "It's also confirms that it is not too early to get immunized against flu."
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says everyone older than six months should get a flu shot this year. This year's flu vaccine includes protection against three strains of influenza, including H1N1. That means only one flu immunization is necessary.
Health officials do not expect a shortage of vaccines this year. The nasal spray and shot are already available at clinics and pharmacies.
