20 dogs die in Union County house fire

UNION COUNTY, N.C. -- The Union County Sheriff's Office says 20 dogs perished in a house fire in Union County Wednesday afternoon. 

The Stallings Fire Department responded to a structure fire in the 7000 block of Secrest Short Cut, where visible flames were reportedly billowing from the home. 

The Sheriff's Office says six puppies and 14 adult dogs died in the fire, but another 20 or so survived. 

A woman who reportedly ran back into the home to save the dogs suffered minor injuries.

The home is a total loss.

It's not yet clear what started the fire.
