CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Nearly 2,500 citations were issued during North Carolina’s “Click it or Ticket” campaign during the Thanksgiving holiday.
The campaign ran from November 19 to November 25 in Mecklenburg, Gaston, Cleveland, Anson, Moore, Richmond, Scotland, Union and Hoke counties. In all 105 checkpoints and saturation patrols were set up by officers.
Of the 2,443 citations, leading the way was speeding with 1,320 citations. Additionally, 180 people were issued seat belt tickets and 183 for driver’s license violations.
An assortment of 694 other violations were issued, police said, as well as 21 child restraint tickets.
The numbers are an improvement compared to last year’s Thanksgiving week campaign. Officers issued 315 more citations last year, though that could be partly due to the fact that 59 more checkpoints were issued.
Last year 164 DWI’s were issued compared to 45 in 2012.
