MOORESVILLE, N.C. -- A family in Mooresville is grieving an unthinkable loss.
A three-year-old little girl was found unresponsive in her family's minivan in a neighborhood along Saturday around 5:30 p.m. She was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead.
Police are now looking into how the officer's daughter wound up in the car and what caused her death.
The victim's family friend, who requested anonymity, told NBC Charlotte that the child did not die from being left in a hot car, but didn't tell us what did happen.
Some friends of the family is coming to their defense on Facebook, with one post saying, "If you don't know them personally, you have no room to talk. Amazing parents who love their children."
Police trying to find that out too, say it's too early to tell if charges will be filed.
Officials did not say what caused the girl to be in at an unresponsive state.
