MINT HILL, N.C. -- Approximately 45 cats were seized from a home in Mint Hill late last week, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police announced Wednesday.
A search warrant to a home on Gold Wagon Lane revealed deplorable conditions of an animal hoarder. The cats were surrendered to Animal Control by the hoarder, officials said.
"Veterinary staff at Animal Care & Control has performed health and temperament assessments on most of the felines. Unfortunately, some were not able to be adopted into new homes due to lack of socialization," police said in a statement.
Other cats will, however, be sent to rescue groups and put up for adoption, police said.
The hoarder was allowed to keep three cats as pets, and those cats were returned to the man on Tuesday. Animal Control will continue to monitor him, police said.
