IREDELL COUNTY, N.C. – Five people are charged with selling LSD and other drugs to high school students in Lake Norman.
A two-month investigation began after a pair of Iredell County officers were hurt while responding to Lake Norman High School when a student ingested LSD and began to fight the deputies.
“Detectives began an investigation to find the source of the LSD and sent undercover officers into the Lake Norman community, and with the assistance of a Lake Norman High School Resource Officer, were able to identify several subjects who were key distributors of illegal narcotics to numerous high school students,” said the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office in a statement.
Those undercover officers bought LSD, heroin, marijuana and bath salts sold as “Molly” during the operation. Officials say the bath salts had a chemical that causes powerful hallucinations.
Four men have been arrested and deputies are still searching for a juvenile who they say sold LSD to an undercover officer. The juvenile is believed to be the source providing students the drugs at Lake Norman High School.
Elliot James Ziegler, 24, Daniel Gilbert Brown, 19, Thomas Jordan Wykoff, 19, and Denis Lynn Minger, 48, were all arrested. They each face various drug-related charges and were placed behind bars on bonds ranging from $5,000 to $75,000.
Ziegler faces the stiffest charges, including selling and trafficking drugs.
Officials said none of the undercover operations took place on school property and that further education on drug prevention is planned at the school.
