6 hospitalized, 30 others evaluated after reports of nitrogen leak in west Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Firefighters say over 30 people were being evaluated or transported to local hospitals following reports of a nitrogen leak at a west Charlotte building Tuesday afternoon.

Charlotte Fire responded to a hazards call in the 4800 block of Hovis Road. Charlotte Fire said 27 firefighters were able to control the nitrogen leak a little over an hour. 

The six people who were transported to hospitals are being treated for injuries that are believed to be not life-threatening.

Officials did not say what caused the nitrogen leak.
