STATESVILLE, N.C. -- A 60-year-old man was charged Wednesday in the Aug. 16 sexual assault of two children in a western Iredell County home.
Ernest Alton Hemenway was in the Iredell County Detention Center this morning under a $100,000 bond, after he went to the Sheriff's Office on Wednesday to speak with detectives. Authorities charged Hemenway with two felony counts of indecent liberties with a child.
Sheriff's Lt. Bill Hamby and Detective Sgt. Brian Fink made "numerous attempts" to find Hemenway after the children were interviewed recently at the Dove House Child Advocacy Center in Statesville, Sheriff Phil Redmond said.
Authorities haven’t released the children’s ages.
