CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- One woman was killed and eight others were hurt during a north Charlotte SUV crash on New Year's Day.
The wreck took place in the 1800 block of Sunset Road near Northlake Mall around 11:45 a.m..
Police said that Tuan Iang, a 32-year-old passenger in the Mitsubishi Montero, was rushed to Carolinas Medical Center where she was pronounced dead shortly after 7 p.m.
One person taken to CMC had life-threatening injuries, two had potentially life-threatening injuries, and five others had non-life threatening injuries, according to Medic.
Emergency officials said the driver of the Montero, 33-year-old He Kung, lost control of the SUV on the wet road and hit a tree.
Kung and Iang were husband and wife.
Charlotte Fire Department crews worked to free multiple crash victims from the Jeep.
CMPD is still investigating the accident.
