The driver of the bus, Shera Hubert, was also injured. MEDIC said Hubert suffered minor injuries and was also taken to CMC.
There were no students on the bus during the time of the accident, according to officials.
One witness said the wreck took place during heavy traffic.
“I guess he was going too fast and he couldn’t swerve or nothing. He just hit the back of the bus and went right up under it,” said Cass Byers.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police reopened all outbound lanes in the 2900 block of Wilkinson Boulevard a few hours after the accident happened.
