CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- In addition to flights, most trains traveling to the northeast are canceled through Thursday.
Amtrak says all trains headed in that direction are suspended through Tuesday. Service is grinding to a halt because of high winds and heavy winds caused by Hurricane Sandy.
Thruway bus services associated with the canceled trains are also suspended and Amtrak says transportation for canceled services is not available.
The cancellations are causing headaches for passengers in North Carolina. Several passengers were stranded at the Amtrak station in Charlotte.
According to the railroad, they will contact passengers affected by the canceled trains. They encourage people to stay informed through their Facebook page and via Twitter.
