CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Firefighters worked to douse the flames of an apartment fire off Providence Road Sunday night.
The call came in around 5:30 p.m. When crews arrived on International Drive heavy smoke and flames were spewing from the building.
Concerned residents stood by as firefighters rushed to fight the raging flames. First responders said it appeared the fire started in the kitchen area of one of the apartments.
Thirteen people, including five children, are receiving assistance from the Red Cross to find a place to stay.
Firefighters say one unit is completely destroyed, while another sustained some damage. Investigators are still working to determine what started the fire.
No injuries were reported.
