CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) -- An audit indicates more than $123,000 is missing from the box office and business operation of the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill.

The News & Observer of Raleigh reported (http://bit.ly/QGkRa2) an internal audit found the money was unaccounted for between 2007 and 2011.

The audit showed $121,000 in cash and $2,500 in checks missing from the business operation that oversees the box office for various performances.

The newspaper obtained the audit through a public records request.

The report says cash deposits and records were improperly handled prior to January 2011. Deposits sometimes were delayed two or three weeks that should have been made the next day.

The report says one employee who was not identified no longer works for the department. A school spokeswoman declined comment about the employee.
