RALEIGH, N.C. -- A plan to help pay for renovations at Bank of America stadium has passed in the State House.

The bill allows the city to use a tax that would normally be set aside for the convention center. That tax will generate $110 million, which can now be used for upgrades at the stadium.

House Bill 193 will now head to the Senate.

The City of Charlotte initially asked for the authority to double the 1-percent prepared food and beverage tax, which would've contributed $144 million toward the Panthers' stadium renovation.

The total cost of the renovations is estimated at $250 million.
