ROCK HILL, S.C. -- The baby of a woman rescued in a Rock Hill apartment fire earlier this year has died.

Investigators responded to a house in the 800 block of South York Ave. B on Monday.

Mandi Coley, 20, told police she arrived home to find her 3-month-old baby in bed with the child’s father, Samuel White, 25.

Coley told police she knocked very hard on her apartment door upon returning from work, but no one answered. She then climbed into the apartment through a bedroom window.

The baby lay face down on her belly in the bed when Coley found her. Coley told police the baby wasn’t breathing at the time. She woke her boyfriend and called 911.

The baby was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Police say both parents became very upset after learning of their child’s death. White reportedly began striking walls and acting erratic. He was handcuffed and put into protective custody.

No one has been charged. The investigation is ongoing.

Coley, White and White’s sister were all rescued from a burning Rock Hill apartment building in July. Coley, who was seven months pregnant at the time, and the others had to jump from a window to escape.
