CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- City Council approved a changes Monday night that will allow craft beer makers to operate in larger buildings located in urban areas.
Originally only zoned to operate in industrial parts of the city, this week's move marks the second time in three months council has relaxed zoning laws stipulating brewery locations.
The latest move makes it possible for breweries to set up shop in mixed-used and business districts uptown. It also increased the square footage of buildings zoned for craft beer brewing.
The law change also offers the incentive of even more square footage allowed if brewers rehabilitate and move into buildings erected before 1980.
