It’s a pep rally of sorts for local preschool children at CE Dewberry Academy in west Charlotte. Bobcats’ mascot Rufus and a volunteer read to students.
All month long the students have been getting new books to take home and read with their parents. It's part of an effort to promote literacy.
"Literacy is important because we have what we call school readiness goals,” said Amanda Canteen of Dewberry Academy, “All children when they come to head start we make sure that they are prepared for kindergarten."
The program's goal is to read 3000 books this month. So far they've read close to 1400 books.
