HICKORY, N.C. -- Hickory police have a mystery on their hands, and right now they can't say if a crime has been committed.
Friday morning members of a cleaning crew found the body of a woman under a bed at the Motel 6 located near I-40.
"As far as the room goes, there wasn't any sign of violent behavior, but we have to wait and see the medical examiner do the things they do to determine a cause of death," said Chief Clyde Deal.
Police don't know the age of the victim, or her identity, but they say she had friends. A man and a woman rented the room and left sometime yesterday in a white and grey Toyota Previa minivan.
"The bottom right front does not have a hub cap on it. We know that vehicle to be occupied by a white female and white male. We would like to speak to them to see what they known in regards to this situation," said the deputy chief.
Police say they didn't find any illegal drugs in the room and there was no obvious cause of death. That's why the findings of the medical examiner will be so important in this case.
Investigators say the room was rented several days ago. They believe the victim passed away a few days ago, and that's why they want to talk to the people in the van.
"If I had not done anything wrong and the police wanted to talk to me about an incident, I'd be trying to find the police. I wouldn't wait for them to find me," said Deal.
