CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Charlotte-Mecklenburg police began a death investigation Wednesday afternoon after skeletal remains were found at a construction site.

Police were called to the 2600 block of Bay Street in the Chantilly neighborhood around 3:30 p.m.

After reviewing missing person cases to help identify the victim, authorities announced the remains are 41-year-old Jeffrey Hieronymus.

The Medical Examiner's Office ruled the cause of death to be a suicide.

Hieronymus was reported missing in February 2009.
