Charlotte, N.C. -- Nearly 700 people came together in McAlpine Creek Park Saturday morning to walk, run, and raise money for Camp Care.

The summer camp gives children who are battling cancer a week-long summer camp experience for free.

This past summer they served almost 200 children.

Organizers hold a 5K race that is the only annual fundraiser for the camp, which relies solely on donations.

Parents say the camp has made a huge difference in their children's lives, and with so many hospital visits and treatments it's important for these kids to have this week away.

The group raised $56,000 from this year's 5K which will go towards next year's camp and other local events.

The race is in honor of P.J. Saint Martin and Zack Dobbin, both former Camp Care campers who lost their battles with cancer.
