CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Scattered showers moved across the Charlotte region early Thursday morning.
Parts of south Charlotte and Union County saw rain move through the area around 5:30 a.m. It slowly moved into South Carolina toward Rock Hill and York County around 6:15 a.m.
This morning rain moved out by 8 a.m. but there are more chances of rain and storms later this afternoon.
Today there will be a mix of clouds and sunshine early, then mostly cloudy during the afternoon hours.
Like the last couple of days, showers and thunderstorms will pop up in the heat of the late afternoon and evening storms. Highs in the low 80s. The chance of rain is 60 percent.
"If you're heading out early this morning make sure you have the rain gear with you," Larry Sprinkle said. "There is a chance for more rain later this afternoon up to 50 percent chance, maybe a thunderstorm to accompany the rain."
The upcoming holiday weekend looks nice with much lower humidity.
Skies will be partly sunny both days, with high temperatures in the mid-70s Saturday. Charlotte will be up around 78° Sunday afternoon. Memorial Day will be comfortable with highs in the upper 70s.
The overnight lows could approach record lows Saturday and Sunday morning in the mid-40s.
"The rain will move out for the weekend," Sprinkle said. "It will be nice for Saturday and Sunday with temperatures in the 70s for the race. Memorial Day there will be some clouds but it should be nice."
