CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The CEO of Charlotte-based company Lending Tree is helping his employees share the joy of the season.
He gave them $30,000-- to give away.
They are used to dealing with money at Lending Tree's home offices in Charlotte, but this is a little bit different.
Piles of cash divvied up among employees who were told to spread the wealth. CEO Doug Lebda said, “We were gonna do a year-end gift, we were thinking about iPads.
Instead he decided to give all 160 Charlotte staffers $200 to give to someone else.
“I’ve had people hugging me today, I’ve had people really excited around the office. I haven’t seen this much excitement in 15 years in the company,” Lebda said.
Nick Chapman’s wife is a kindergarten teacher. One of her students is homeless.
“I figured if I could do anything to help this kid have something on Christmas... it will go a long way for him,” he expressed.
Michelle Robbe said, “A couple of my sales reps are pooling money and helping a veteran who is homeless right now.”
Another group pooled their money and gave it to the Ronald McDonald house.
